Review schedule

The date, set at the moment of deciding, on which the decision will be reviewed, and the signals, defined in advance, that would indicate it is time to change. It is the last piece of the fourth step of the method.

What it changes for the executive

A decision without a review schedule becomes a commitment by inertia: one continues because one started. Setting the date and the signals beforehand, when it still costs nothing, is what allows holding a decision without being locked into it. The signal must be an observable fact, not a feeling.

Example

A hire conditional on the renewal of a major client has as its review date the date of that renewal; an investment in a market has as its signal the number of clients signed at twelve months.
