Short biography
Mike Ciabatti is the founder of CIABATTI, a decision advisory firm based in Valais and Geneva, Switzerland. He helps executives of companies of a few dozen to a few hundred people make, with method, the decisions that commit them: investing, reading the figures, reorganising, deciding about people, governing and handing over. He has run a services company, trained managers, and serves as a specialist militia officer in the Swiss Armed Forces. He is the author of Intelligence Stratégique and of the newsletter "Le métier de décider", and works in French and English.
Long biography
Mike Ciabatti has spent most of his career in positions where one decides with incomplete information and teams to lead. He ran a services company of some sixty employees, with its decisions on investment, organisation, people and governance. A certified adult trainer, he long trained managers and operational teams. A specialist militia officer in the Swiss Armed Forces, in the field of media and information, he acquired there the discipline that structures his method: separating what is known from what is assumed and from what others have an interest in making one believe. He holds an MBA.
From this path he drew a conviction, then a method, then a firm. The conviction: decision is a craft, with its rules, its tools and its typical mistakes, not a talent one either has or lacks. The method, in four steps, frame, establish, build, decide and hold, is set out in his book Intelligence Stratégique and in his newsletter "Le métier de décider". The firm, CIABATTI, applies it for executives of companies of a few dozen to a few hundred people, for boards and for institutions, in Valais, Geneva and French-speaking Switzerland. He developed StratBoard, an instrument for reading a company's accounts from the executive's point of view, and published the corresponding method in a freely available handbook, "Décider sur des chiffres, pas sur des impressions".
Mike Ciabatti speaks at keynotes, masterclasses and seminars for executive committees, boards and professional associations, in French and English. He cites no engagement and names no client.

The angles on which the firm speaks.
Five subjects drawn from practice. The firm does not comment on the news of named companies, does not pronounce on individuals and takes no position on political matters.
Decision in business as a craft
Why most bad decisions are good answers to badly framed questions, and what an executive can do in four steps to decide in time, with incomplete information, without getting locked in.
Reading the accounts as an executive
What the income statement does not say, why two companies with the same profit do not run the same risk, and the three figures an executive should know by heart. A subject that speaks to SMEs and that business pages rarely cover from this angle.
Governance and succession in owner-led companies
Why successions are settled in a hurry, what the notary does not settle, and how a board becomes useful.
Deciding about people
The invisible cost of waiting, the confusion between the person and the position, and what Swiss employment law permits without saying whether one should.
What intelligence work teaches decision-making
Separating what is known, what is assumed and what others have an interest in making one believe, in an acquisition, a negotiation or an unfavourable information campaign.
Formats and languages
Written or recorded interview, op-ed, panel, podcast; keynote, masterclass or seminar. French and English; German on request. Switzerland and French-speaking Europe; elsewhere on request.
